02-05-12 - Boston, MA>Hartford, CT - We are a MetroWest based indie rock/jam band that is looking for a bassist to complete our current lineup of 2 guitars, keyboards (+ horns) and drums/percussion. A little about us . . . The band was formed in the fall of 2010 and response to our initial gigs was very positive. We have played venues from Worcester through Framingham and into Cambridge. We currently play 50% covers/50% originals, but the overall objective is to gravitate towards mostly originals with some covers sprinkled in. The individual band members musical tastes are vast and too many to mention in a small space, but our own personal listening spans from jam bands to Alternative/Singer Songwriter to Classic Rock, Indie Rock with even some jazz influences and a little blues thrown in. We don't cover all these types of music in the band, but all of these influences mix together to influence our original song writing and jam styles. Our immediate direction is to play 1-2x/month, continue writing with the objective of recording a CD of original music in the second half of 2012. We practice every Thursday night in a rehearsal studio in Framingham (each member pays $60/month). Additional rehearsals are scheduled as needed when preparing for shows. We don't expect to get rich from this band. Some of the shows we have played have been paid gigs and some have been showcase/exposure type gigs. We usually do not play a gig unless we are being paid, it is good band experience or offers exposure to a new audience. We all have professional jobs and family responsibilities that we take seriously, but we are all very passionate and committed to this project. A little about you . . . we are looking for a band-experienced bass player that is interested in playing original tunes. You will need to be able to hold your own during new writing/experimental jams, have a good understanding of song structures and develop a sound that you enjoy playing and works well within that structure. You will not be shy about being an integral member of the band with equal say and will not hesitate about bringing your own musical ideas and/or originals songs to rehearsals. If you just want to hold down the groove and rhythm of songs that is fine too, but we want to make sure that you understand the musical voice and freedom that the band offers and enjoys. We expect that you may have a job and family, but will share the same level of passion and commitment to the band as we do. We are a Rhythm Guitarist/Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals, and Drummer who unfortunately lost our bassist. We are all drug and drama free, non-smokers, have families, have careers, etc. . . We started playing together about 5 months ago and have about 35 songs that we are working on. The genre is mainly a mix of Alternative Rock, Funk and Reggae, we are trying to keep the music that we play upbeat and energetic. We are working toward playing gigs and we were very close to that point. The plan was to start up as a cover band for a quick start and begin working on originals to mix in. We have also discussed raising the rehearsal rate to be ready for this season. Read on and if you have an interest in our project lets talk. We have been rehearsing at my house Tuesdays at 6:30 till around 9, which we can readdress for the right person if needed, in Manchester off Mammoth Road on the Manchester/Hooksett line. I need to be very picky as to whom I will let in my family's home, or even who I will associate with. I really feel that if your band mates are not someone you would want as a friend, then why bother? You spend far too much time together and need to mesh and be on the same wavelength. We have a large "jamroom" about 500 sq ft with equipment, 20 channel mackie mixer, 1200 watts per channel crown power amp into the mains, powered mixers, yamaha monitor speakers, bass amp and cab, mics, cables, stands, some lighting effects and controllers, recording equipment etc . . . and can play as loud and as long as we like. This is a reincarnation of a previous ensemble from a few years ago that dissolved due to relocations, etc. Three of the original members are onboard, myself included, so we are looking for a violinist and bassoonist to supplement oboe(soprano sax/flute) cello and piano. I'm looking for solid players and readers, but you need not be pro - serious amateurs are welcomed and encouraged. Bassoon - if you can double, that is a total plus, but absolutely not necessary. Originally, we mostly played arrangements of pop/rock music (think Vitamin String Quartet, but with a distinctly different sound and style) with a few originals and classical pieces thrown in. We already have a decent sized library of tunes (we do all of our own arranging) but would like to expand and have more classical repertoire as well as expand into some standards (great american songbook) to have a really well rounded line-up. Ideally we'd be a sort of "general business" ensemble, playing weddings, parties, holidays, etc. If you're interested, drop me a line!
