The Quartet Seeks Singers-Minneapolis - 696761
03-08-10 - Minneapolis, MN>Rapid City, SD - The Quartet formerly known as Coldfusion Saxophone Quartet has recently been forced to seek replacements for two members who have moved on to fulfill expanding family responsibilities. Since our founding in 2007, we have accumulated a variety of sax quartet charts; swing standards, mild jazz, a little pop and R&B, rags and themes from N?Orleans, Blues Brothers, TV and movie themes; and many other pieces suitable for a wide range of performance settings. Our arrangements are SATB and AATB and we two remaining members are alto/sop and tenor. Alto/Soprano We are looking for a player who can handle the alto parts and also share some of the soprano playing on a number of arrangements. We would consider someone who plays alto exclusively, but sharing the soprano parts is our preference. Baritone We also need a baritone player; one who can provide a solid rhythmic foundation in a saxophone quartet. We strongly prefer a player with a low A horn, as several of our pieces benefit from some serious bass tones, but we?d consider a solid Bb player. We're looking for people with a fair amount of playing experience -- having played in college is a good thing; having played in a small ensemble where everybody has to blend and be on their toes is even better. Most importantly, we're looking for players who have good technical execution; a good ear for intonation, an understanding of jazz articulation and group blend; a good sense of timing and who are easy going enough to give and take respectful critique within the group. We started this group because we the love the sound of the saxophone and enjoy presenting it to people who may not be familiar with the sound of a sax quartet. We're serious about playing music and even more serious about having fun while doing it. Rehearsals schedules are flexible; we try for once every week or at least every other week, sometimes more frequently, especially when approaching a gig or when bringing new members up to speed. We currently play about a half dozen performances a year. Some are free public benefit concerts and others are paid gigs for parties and other events. Once the group is familiar with the repertoire, we want to expand our performance schedule as time and group consensus allows.
